reframing how we consume content. before you panic—no, this isn’t about quitting social media, deleting all your apps, or moving to a remote cabin to read by candlelight
Love this Robin. I’ve recently been trying to ask myself ‘did I find this useful or inspiring’ when scrolling through TikTok and Instagram and if the answer is no then I unfollow! It truly has helped me create a healthier digital environment.
Lets gooo! Being intentional about what we consume online makes such a HUGE difference in our overall wellness. Creating a feed that's inspiring and uplifting is such a game changer👏🏻
i love this post! i look forward to your newsletter!!. also the thing about saving long form content is so true. i always save my fav substack posts and read them throughout the post. ive seen a lot of posts about not knowing what to do without your phone. ill probably write a post about it and credit you for giving me the idea!
I've really tried to embrace the "just create for creation sake" mentality this year and only 2ish months in, it's amazing how GOOD it feels!!
I also like to only follow people that inspire me on platforms. I don't treat social media like a way to keep up with what people from my past are doing. I follow the people that inspire me or that I get excited when viewing their content!
It’s never too late to start change and honestly, that’s such a powerful realization! Even just a little shift each day makes such a difference. Maybe start with journaling a small paragraph a day or reading just 1 page or chapter. You got this Julyssa!🩷
This is lovely. I find that nearly all my creativity needs to come from a place of boredom, or low stimulation, whether it's composing music while camping, or staring into space for 10 minutes with Freedom blocking the internet before I can get myself to start writing. So just making those low stimulation states available, curating the environment with that in mind like you said, is a big step in the right direction for me..
This is why I love Substack! And more recently, I reviewed my IG follow list and unfollowed any and all accounts I don’t actually engage with or don’t make me feel good. Good to know there’s a name for it🙂
I really love this and I definitely agree with these tips. I love writing about these kinds of topics as well. It seems as though I have naturally implemented these tips through time. It didn't happen overnight but it did happen because I was aware how my real life was suffering because of it.
I love this! What I just tried to do this week was uninstall my phone's Instagram but left it on my tablet. It's only been a few days but so far when I'm idling with my phone I'd reach out for substack instead of yt shorts and when I do get home to my tablet I'd be opening any app but instagram. I did still log in to the app to scroll for a bit but it was literally to pass a few minutes by since I was waiting for something.
My 1st thought: Wow, everyone in my friends group needs to read this! My 2nd thought: 8/10 people wouldn't even take/have the time to read through this. Everything feels "too much" to read/digest these days.
I loved this, I actually just added an app limit because I was feeling so overstimulated. I decided to open an account here and I think it’s so much better, people have me reading so much interesting stuff instead of just doomscrolling.
Yesss I love that! Setting app limits is such a small shift but makes such a big difference. And I totally agree, being on here feels like a breath of fresh air. So happy you’re here and finding things that actually nourish your mind instead of drain it🫶🏻
Love this, I’ve recently been feeling like all social media does is drain and overwhelm me and I often don’t even remember what I watched. What I do remember is the books and articles I read or the podcasts I listened to. I’ve been avoiding opening any socials first thing in the morning and noticed a massive improvement in my mental energy throughout the day

Thank you, I love that!! Definitely let me know if you publish that, would LOVE to read it

Yeesss, I love this! I used to just follow anybody and everybody, but being so much more intentional actually feels so amazing!
It makes engaging with creators on platforms much more enjoyable and much less surface level, in my opinion💫
I'm realizing my screen time is absolutely horrible, so I'm doing my best to read everyday and journal.

Love this! I'm working on taking ownership over my attention again and this is very helpful and inspiring 🥰🥰
I love this idea of curating my media, it’s so simple and so profound. Less chaos
Heavy on the forth point. Put down the phone, you can take a shit without it! Embrace the silence!

Amazing take! So well written, definitely needed this message. x
thank you for this!
Love this. And heavy emphasis on being bored. Being bored can be therapeutic for the mind...
